The shell of 207 Bath Street, Glasgow was formerly occupied by a clothes retail business. Both levels were in poor repair and required substantial down takings and essential repairs.
Our client required a Bar that would advertise itself and be noticed along the length of Bath Street. A glazed box structure was introduced. The box allowed transparency to be maintained through the façade to new internal sandstone columns aligned with the heavy pilasters of the upper façade.
The box is sandblasted to contain and filter colour change floor lighting, illuminating the box in the evening. Linear feature slots cut into the glass captures glimpses of the passing public whilst providing a degree of secrecy.
The entrance and stair is clad in oak decking with lighting recessed at the floor/wall junction to enhance the impression of detachment of stair to wall. Feature glazing slots present glimpses of bar activity.
Both levels of the bar restaurant are minimal in design character. The ground floor bar is finished in white mosaic, stressed beige leather upholstery, maple flooring, and soft paintwork creating a clean light contemporary flavour. The lower level is intimate and dimly lit. Rosewood timber, leatherslate tiles and royal red distressed leather upholstery offer a rich deep interior dining area.
A grid of large acrylic lightboxes hang from the ceiling successfully creating a floating illusion of suspended light.
