The proposed ‘script’ bar and members club celebrates bards of the past and present.
The grade B listed façade is to be carefully cleaned and repaired. The original entrance stonework is also to be carefully repaired and brought back to the original ashlar quality. The interior has suffered from years of neglect, poor repair and ill conceived alterations.
The new interior retains what little detail remains and presents a book in a building. The walls and ceilings at the upper level bar are wrapped in literary content from a number of authors both alive and dead.
The lower Club is a series of mirrored illusions and colour change glass walls with embossed text from George Bernard Shaw, Arthur Conan Doyle, Walter Scott, Keates, Burns, and Dylan Thomas as well as a number of contemporary literates & poets.
The walls use the latest in led lighting technology combined with SAV vinyl text applications on a substantial scale.
This project will realize the last of the Tay Square rejuvenation initiatives and finally complete a rich and diverse range of entertainment venues for the Cultural Quarter of Dundee.
