No 4 Meadowside is a collection of 4 Grade A, B and C listed buildings forming a horse shoe shape with a lower inner core building bridging the gap between the main buildings.
The building types range from 1900, 1930 and the 1960’s. Each building differed entirely in construction, structure and levels with large areas falling into disrepair.
Aim were commissioned to create a multipurpose entertainments venue including a 3000 capacity zoned nightclub, diner, public house, and offices with basement parking. It was crucial that the Integrity of this well known Dundee land mark was retained and the building rejuvenated. All structural and zonal design was deliberately & carefully concealed entirely behind the existing façades of the building.
The external skin was overhauled with grant assistance. Extensive stone repair & window treatment works were completed with the introduction of façade accent lighting.
The Nightclub is designed within an acoustic shell to contain any noise pollution. The Nightclub is further segregated using acoustic baffle walls to form sound zones to avoid the forming of undesirable enclosed rooms. The top floor Offices & 1st floor Diner are acoustically and environmentally segregated to provide an appropriate and comfortable environment for the respective user group.
The project received a Dundee Institute of Architects Award for Interior design.
